“BIS” a new Smart Registration System

BIS is the National Standard Body of India established under the BIS Act 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

The Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) , a new Smart Registration System for regulatory purposes,  is now online. As of May 20, 2019 all BIS related applications, related to the Compulsory Registration Scheme, must be processed digitally under this new platform. You can access it here.

Registration on the new platform has to be processed by either the manufacturer or the Indian importer. This new digital registration scheme  will no longer require a hard copy reports, making the process more efficient. Instead, the local BIS test lab will submit the test reports directly to you through the portal, All through the digital space. Hard copies of test reports (for products that have been already  tested) will be accepted until June 30, 2019.
